C&C Housing Trust raises £25k for award-winning dementia care technology
London-based Housing Trust, Central & Cecil (C&C), has fundraised £25,000 to invest in award-winning Dutch dementia care technology, Tovertafel™, or ‘The Magic Table™’ as it is more commonly known.
The Trust raised the impressive sum through cycling 70km and running 5km around central London in June last year, passing a host of C&C’s residential homes on the way. The organisation has used the proceeds to invest in four Tovertafel, aimed at creating more meaningful activities for those living with mid-to-late stage dementia.
Tovertafel is a series of award-winning interactive light games projected onto any table, and has been designed to stimulate physical, social and cognitive activity. The games are specifically designed for two groups living with cognitive challenges that are often overlooked by services in society; people living with mid-to-late stage dementia and adults living with learning disabilities.
The introduction of this technology into public spaces across the country aims to bring the local community together, creating an accessible, safe environment for those with cognitive challenges, their carers and loved ones. The goal is to reduce the number of people living in social isolation whatever their circumstance or stage in life.
At C&C’s Tovertafel unveiling C&C CEO, Julia Ashley said:
“It has been so inspiring to see our residents positively engage with our newly installed Tovertafel magic tables and especially to see the moments of joy brought through these interactions. We are truly grateful for our generous sponsors Montagu Evans and Regal London who rallied together along with our staff, friends and families to raise the necessary funds for our four Tovertafel.”
“We are already exploring new ways in which we can use our magic tables to inspire more moments of happiness for our residents, including combining Tovertafel with intergenerational activities and sensory therapies.”
John Ramsay, CEO of Shift8* – the company bringing Tovertafel to the UK and Ireland, said:
“We’re thrilled by C&C’s incredible fundraising efforts and are delighted by their overwhelming response to the installation of their four Tovertafels. We’re pleased that this incredible technology is now being made accessible to more members of the community in London and beyond.
“Designed to create moments of happiness for those living with dementia as well as those with learning disabilities and autism, it is heart-warming to provide positive and invaluable experiences, not only for those on their journey, but their family members, friends and carers too.”
