Closomat steps in to help care homes deliver on new guidelines for equipment provision
An innovative package is enabling easy compliance with new guidance over the provision of equipment within care homes.
Closomat, Britain’s leading provider of assistive technology for toilet tasks, already has the capability to help management deliver on the recommendations of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT)’s Care Homes and Equipment- Guiding Principles for Assessment and Provision.
Under the guidance, care homes would be expected to have standard equipment that would be widely available to end users in their own homes. Such equipment will be – among other criteria – used by more than one person, be used frequently/regularly, assist activities of daily living and enable independence, support a safe environment for users.
Further, with particular respect to moving and handling i.e. hoists, equipment should be subjected to routine maintenance & servicing, and regularly inspected / examined by a competent person.
Closomat’s Aerolet toilet lifter- the WC equivalent of a riser recliner chair, and Vita range of wash & dry toilets tick the boxes for standard equipment provision. They enable the user to use the toilet on their own, and be clean and hygienic afterwards (https://www.closomat.co.uk/products.html).
Supporting the toilet combination, the company also provides a range of overhead track hoists, with configurations that provide single full room cover, or throughout part or all of a floor, including individual rooms and corridors.
All the equipment is supported by Closomat’s in-house project management. This includes site survey, supply, install, commissioning, and training for staff and users. Subsequent care is provided via the company’s service & maintenance offering. This ensures regular routine servicing & maintenance of all Closomat- supplied equipment, and timely rectification of any issues that may occur inbetween. The service contract is fully managed by Closomat, meaning care home managers to not have to spend time on the whole process of annual checks.
“The RCOT guidance reaffirms the importance of equipment and assistive technology in every care environment,” says Robin Tuffley, Closomat marketing manager. “Our approach is about giving everyone involved peace of mind, optimum hygiene for health & wellbeing, and independence.”
