Copenhagen, shooting kills 3 and injures many – last hour

(ANSA) – Copenhagen, July 04 – Three people were killed and several others injured in a shooting at a shopping center in Copenhagen yesterday, Danish police announced. The 22-year-old, who was arrested after the incident, was known to law enforcement “but only partially,” Chief Inspector Søren Thomassen told a news conference.

According to witnesses armed with a large gun, the young man was arrested without violence shortly after police arrived near the large Fields shopping center located between the city center and the Danish capital’s airport. The motives of the suspect, described by police as a 22-year-old “ethnic Dane,” are unclear. Thomassen said he was known to the police “but only partially”, adding: “He was not particularly known to us.” The three victims were a man in his forties and two youths whose ages were not specified. “We see it written on social networks that it could be a racist motive, but I can’t say that we have any support at the moment,” the head of the investigation noted. Instead, police confirmed they were investigating videos posted online of the suspect pointing weapons at his head and questioning his mental health. Earlier, investigators refused to rule out an act of terrorism. (handle).
