Established care home developer and operator celebrates success of East Lothian facility

By

Six months on from its opening, a newly established high-spec care home in Haddington, East Lothian, is thoroughly embedded in the local community.

Haddington Care Home is a 68-bedroom facility at Mill Wynd, which provides specialist care services to its residents, including nursing, respite and dementia care. The care home has created almost 80 jobs for the local area since it opened in the summer and is currently providing a third of its bed spaces to local NHS patients, acting as a step down unit while a planned NHS hospital (East Lothian Community Hospital) is under construction.

The developer of the facility, Haddington Care Ltd, used a £5 million funding package from Clydesdale Bank’s Health and Social Care team to finance the project from inception to completion. The facility is geared towards providing specialist support for patients with dementia.

Haddington Care Ltd Company Director Ally Donaldson said: “Nearly six months on from Haddington Care Home being completed, we are thoroughly enjoying being part of the local community. We have delivered a top of the range facility, which provides the highest levels of care to residents in Haddington and the surrounding East Lothian area. This development took many years of planning and we couldn’t have completed it without the support of Clydesdale Bank. We are grateful for their expertise and funding.”

Residents at Haddington Care Home can access a variety of specialist care services with round-the-clock support from nurses and local GP’s to make their stay as comfortable as possible and put the minds of their families at ease. The facility features activity rooms, a lounge, café and garden terrace, alongside onsite catering and laundry services, while each bedroom contains a wet room shower en-suite as standard.

The business has a long-standing relationship with Clydesdale Bank, dating back to 1997, when the Bank provided funding for the construction of Banff Care Home, a 56-bed residential care home in Banff, in Aberdeenshire. The business plans to expand its operations, with a goal to own and operate at least three care homes by 2020, supporting older residents.

Clydesdale Bank Commercial Relationship Manager Graeme Muir said: “We are thrilled to be backing the hard-working management team at Haddington Care Ltd, who have proven their ability to create high quality developments in communities across Scotland. With bed places available in East Lothian compared to elsewhere in the country, Haddington Care Home is playing a vital role in making up the shortfall of places, providing a much-needed service to residents, alongside creating local jobs.”
