Hideki Matsuyama was the eight-time winner of the PGA Tour Disqualified from the first round of the Memorial Tournament Thursday after officials discovered he had marks on a golf club that did not meet standards for tour equipment.

Chief Referee Steve Rintoul explained that someone who declined to be named indicated that the 3-piece Matsuyama wood appeared to have noticeable white markings that appeared to be used for alignment.
